Kiaracondong Thug Arrested After Attacking Residents with Sword

A man identified as RH (30), known as a local thug in the Kiaracondong area of Bandung, has been arrested after attacking a resident with a sword over a debt of just Rp150,000. The victim, Rian Permana (35), sustained slash wounds to his hand and mouth, while three other people were also injured in the incident and have undergone medical examinations at a hospital. The attack took place in the early hours of Sunday, 2 August, at around 1.15 a.m. Western Indonesia Time on Jalan Sukamanah, Sukapura Village, Kiaracondong District, Bandung City.

The incident began when the suspect and his friends approached the victim to collect money from the sale of a plastic cupboard. When the victim denied the debt, an argument ensued and escalated into a physical fight, during which the suspect attacked the victim and other residents at the scene. The assault was recorded by witnesses and the video subsequently circulated on social media.

Police arrived at the location after receiving reports, but the victims were already injured and the perpetrators had fled. Acting on information from residents, officers tracked down the suspect within 24 hours and arrested him at his parents’ home, not far from the scene of the attack. Kiaracondong Police Chief Commissioner Sumartono confirmed the swift arrest and stated that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

Sumartono noted that the suspect is a known thug who had previously undergone guidance from security forces, including the Babinsa and Bhabinkamtibmas, in an effort to maintain public order. However, he said such individuals often roam the area during weekends. Police are currently pursuing two other suspects believed to have been involved in the assault. The arrested man faces charges under Article 262 in conjunction with Article 466 of the Criminal Code concerning assault and battery, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
