Jakarta (ANTARA) - The South Korean automaker Kia is reportedly set to launch a new double-cab pickup truck with body-on-frame construction and options for petrol-electric hybrid power using Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) technology. Drive reported on Sunday local time that this future vehicle boasts unique features. Utilising this technology, the vehicle can deliver the sensation of a typical petrol car while offering an environmentally friendly and efficient driving experience. EREV is a long-range electric vehicle where the wheels are driven by electric motors, and the petrol engine is used only as a generator to produce energy for charging the battery, which can also be recharged externally. The manufacturer explained that this vehicle, with its broader range, will be launched first in 2029, ahead of the conventional hybrid model in 2030. This is one of the options being considered by Hyundai Australia as their first pickup truck to be sold in local showrooms, and the company stated that they are collaborating with their counterparts in the US on this project.
