KIA Reduces Prices of Carens and Sonet, Cheaper by Tens of Millions of Rupiah

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – PT KIA Sales Indonesia has carried out a price adjustment (price repositioning) for two of its flagship models in the national market, namely the KIA Carens and KIA Sonet.

This step is part of KIA’s new strategy to strengthen competitiveness while changing market perceptions of the South Korean brand.

Through this policy, KIA has slashed prices for both models by tens of millions of rupiah.

For the KIA Sonet, the Signature variant is now down from Rp 339 million to Rp 313 million, Motion from Rp 314 million to Rp 288 million, and Trendy from Rp 289 million to Rp 263 million.

CEO of KIA Sales Indonesia, Jong Sung Park, explained that this step is part of a long-term strategy for the Indonesian market. Previously, KIA was seen as having relatively high pricing positioning compared to competitors in its segment.

“This is part of KIA’s new strategy in Indonesia. We want to make KIA products more accessible to the public,” said Jong Sung Park in Jakarta on Monday (27/4/2026).

In agreement, VP Operations of KIA Sales Indonesia, Harry Yanto, added that KIA is currently reorganising its product line to better suit the needs of Indonesian consumers.

“We are preparing a more appropriate line-up for the Indonesian market. In the future, there will be several new products that we will also introduce to strengthen KIA’s position,” Harry said.

This price adjustment step also signals that KIA wants to compete more aggressively in the compact SUV and MPV segments, which are currently dominated by strong players like Toyota, Mitsubishi, and increasingly expansive Chinese brands.

With this new pricing strategy, KIA firmly wants to change its positioning from a brand previously considered premium to one that is more inclusive.
