Khozy Rizal explains water usage in 'Matilah Kau Mati' music video
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The music group Efek Rumah Kaca, in collaboration with Knogg, released the song ‘Matilah Kau Mati’ as the theme song for the feature film ‘Laut Bercerita’, which was released on digital music platforms on 24 August.
The music video, directed by Khozy Rizal and produced under the production house Pal8 Pictures, features a scene of Biru Laut rising from the dead, with the visual showing a room appearing wet and submerged in water.
‘We used up one truckload of water. But a special pool was indeed made just for that scene. So the water was actually collected,’ said director Khozy Rizal while explaining the technical process of shooting the scene in his statement in Jakarta on Monday.
According to Khozy, the artificial water pool could also collect the water that had been used after the shooting process on the set was completed.
He also added that building a water pool set was considered safer than creating rain effects and a submerged-room effect directly in a resident’s house.
It is noted that the lyrics for ‘Matilah Kau Mati’ were written by three writers: Leila S. Chudori, Sutardji Calzoum Bachri, and Cholil Mahmud (vocalist of Efek Rumah Kaca).
The title and the main lyric excerpt ‘Matilah Kau Mati/Kau Akan Lahir Berkali-kali’ are the work of legendary poet Sutardji Calzoum Bachri.
According to Leila, the phrase became a kind of mantra that strengthened the heart of the character Biru Laut, played by Reza Rahadian in the story, making her want to credit Sutardji as the creator of the song’s lyrics.
The musical arrangement was performed by the music group Efek Rumah Kaca together with Knogg (whose real name is Angan Senja, son of Cholil Mahmud), who also played the trumpet in addition to acting as producer for the song ‘Matilah Kau Mati’.
Besides Reza Rahadian, ‘Laut Bercerita’ stars Yunita Siregar, Eva Celia, Christine Hakim, Arswendy Bening Swara, Dian Sastrowardoyo, Yoga Pratama, Kevin Julio, Ben Nugroho, Dewa Dayana, Nagra Kautsar, Ibnu Jamil, Natalius Chendana, Afrian Arisandy, and many more.
Meanwhile, director Khozy Rizal is a filmmaker from Makassar known for his short film ‘Basri & Salma dalam Komedi Tak Pernah Berakhir’, which was nominated in the ‘Short Film Palme d’Or’ category at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in 2023.
