Surabaya - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has urged the public to make Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah a momentum for strengthening world peace. “The spirit of Eid al-Fitr, hopefully, can become part of the inspiration for all heads of state and all citizens of the nation that what we need is a safe atmosphere, a peaceful atmosphere, a serene atmosphere,” Khofifah said after performing Eid prayers at the National Al-Akbar Mosque in Surabaya on Saturday. She stressed that peace is an urgent need amid global dynamics, as conflicts only bring negative impacts, both economically and in terms of social stability. “There is no winner in this war. We feel the economic impact from the crude oil supply, and we can feel the economic risks and risks to social structure stability, so we do not want this to drag on,” Khofifah stated. In addition, she said, the East Java Provincial Government has undertaken various efforts to ensure the public can celebrate Eid al-Fitr safely and comfortably, including cross-sector coordination to maintain price stability and the smooth distribution of essential goods. “Together with the Deputy Governor, we have layered coordination meetings, first to stabilise prices in various ways to ensure the distribution of essential goods reaches the fulfilment of public needs at affordable prices,” Khofifah explained. Furthermore, the East Java Provincial Government has facilitated a free homecoming programme for the public, with a total of 9,230 participants who have arrived safely at their respective destinations in 20 districts/cities. “A total of 9,230 by ship, from Jakarta, or within East Java to 20 points in districts/cities, and they have arrived safely at their respective homes, happy, and able to perform socialising to the maximum,” Khofifah revealed. Furthermore, the Governor also urged the public to maintain the tradition of socialising and mutual forgiveness as a perfecting part of Ramadan worship. “This socialising tradition must be continuously upheld; mutual forgiveness does not have to wait for Eid al-Fitr, but socialising and mutual forgiveness during Eid al-Fitr is a part that can perfect our Ramadan worship,” Khofifah said.
