The Governor of East Java, Khofiyfah Indar Parawansa, has requested all residents of East Java to fly the Red and White flag at half-mast on Wednesday (30/9). This appeal was issued specifically to commemorate the G30S tragedy.

Khofifah stated that the community should subsequently raise the flag to full mast on Thursday (1/10), coinciding with the commemoration of Pancasila Sanctity Day.

“On 30 September, let us fly the Red and White at half-mast to remember the G30S events. Then, on 1 October starting from 06:00, raise it again to full mast to commemorate Pancasila Sanctity Day,” Khofifah said in a written statement on Tuesday (29/9).

This directive is directed towards all government agencies, educational institutions, office managers, and the general public.

According to Khofifah, this two-day period of flag flying serves as an appropriate time to reflect on historical journeys while strengthening national unity.

“These two days invite us to remember and simultaneously strengthen our resolve. We respect the nation’s history and continue to uphold Pancasila as the foundation that unites Indonesia,” she said.

This flag-flying measure refers to the Decree of the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number B/668/MK/TU.02.03/2026, issued on 23 September. This year, the commemoration of Pancasila Sanctity Day carries the theme ‘Pancasila as the Unifier of the Nation towards a Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia’.

Khofifah expressed great hope that this theme would not merely remain a jargon, but would be realised through attitudes of mutual respect and cooperation, particularly among Millennials and Gen Z.

“Especially for the younger generation, let us recognise the nation’s history and practise Pancasila values through action. Maintain harmony, respect differences, and be present to help others. That is how we continue to nurture unity,” she remarked.

Based on the same guidelines, the East Java Provincial Government will also hold a Pancasila Sanctity Day commemoration ceremony at the provincial, regency, and city government office levels on 1 October, starting at 07:30 local time.

Following the ceremony, citizens are also invited to watch the speech by the Minister of Culture via the Indonesiana TV channel or the ministry’s official YouTube channel.
