Khofifah: The "riyayan" tradition strengthens the commitment to togetherness
East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa stated that the riyayan tradition is capable of strengthening brotherhood and reaffirming collective commitments in building a better life. “By shaking hands directly with the community, Insya Allah, it will strengthen the relationship between the government and the people,” she said on the final day of riyayan at her residence in Surabaya on Monday. She added that this tradition also serves as a space to build togetherness and reaffirm shared commitments in realising a better life. The riyayan atmosphere was warm and familial. The attending residents not only engaged in silaturahim but also felt a direct closeness with their leader. The public appeared very pleased to meet directly with the number one person in East Java, as well as a manifestation of the ongoing gotong royong spirit between the leader and the community to jointly build East Java. On that occasion, Governor Khofifah greeted each resident present at her private home one by one. She also accommodated requests for selfies as a form of closeness with the community who wished to capture the moment of togetherness. Meanwhile, one of the residents named Andiah from Bendul Merisi, Surabaya, said that this was her first experience of silaturahim at the residence of East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa. She admitted to having just returned to Surabaya after mudik. Together with her neighbours, she flocked to Governor Khofifah’s residence.
