Khofifah Strengthens Citizen Self-Reliance to Accelerate Poverty Alleviation
East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa is strengthening citizen self-reliance and accelerating poverty alleviation through the 2026 Sapa Bansos programme by distributing social assistance, honorariums for social pillars, and productive zakat worth Rp2.27 billion to the people of Probolinggo City.
“Our main focus is accelerating poverty alleviation while reducing social inequality. Therefore, the social protection provided must be adaptive and able to empower the community,” Khofifah stated in a release received in Surabaya on Thursday.
According to her, the East Java Provincial Government applies two approaches to social protection: charity or social protection for vulnerable groups, and empowering for communities with the potential for economic development.
“Through a combined approach of protection and empowerment, we want to ensure that communities in need receive assistance, while also opening up space for them to improve their welfare independently,” said Khofifah.
In 2026, the East Java Provincial Government allocated social assistance and honorariums for social pillars worth Rp171.239 billion for communities across various regencies and cities. Of this amount, Probolinggo City received an allocation of Rp2.273 billion.
The assistance distributed includes the Plus Family Hope Programme (PKH Plus) worth Rp1.202 billion to 601 beneficiary families, social assistance for communities in the extreme poverty category worth Rp426 million to 284 recipients, and Social Assistance for Persons with Disabilities (ASPD) worth Rp216 million to 60 beneficiaries.
Additionally, the Jatim Jawara Inclusive Productive Entrepreneurship for Beneficiary Families (KIP KPM JAWARA) assistance of Rp300 million was provided to 100 recipients, each receiving Rp3 million per year.
Operational assistance and honorariums were also provided to 27 social pillars consisting of Disability Companions, Subdistrict Social Welfare Workers (TKSK), and Disaster Preparedness Cadets (TAGANA) with a total value of Rp78.6 million.
To strengthen the community’s economy, the East Java Provincial Government, through synergy with regionally owned enterprises (BUMD), distributed productive zakat worth Rp50 million to 100 beneficiaries, each receiving Rp500,000 for business capital.
“Hopefully it can provide benefits, especially for those who use it for capital, which is empowering, but there is also charity,” said Khofifah.
