Khofifah: Seamless Corridor speeds up Hajj pilgrims' disembarkation services
Iris scans automatically retrieve data for registered flight passengers. Surabaya (ANTARA) – East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa said the implementation of the seamless corridor service for the first Hajj pilgrimage flight group (kloter) at Surabaya Debarkation has sped up immigration checks, eliminating long queues for pilgrims upon their return to Indonesia. ‘This is an incredible digital ecosystem prepared by immigration authorities,’ Khofifah said while welcoming the first kloter from Probolinggo Regency at Surabaya Hajj Hostel on Monday night. ‘They simply need to look at the camera and their iris is scanned without passport stamping.’ Khofifah, who also serves as Coordinator of the Surabaya Hajj Pilgrimage Organising Committee (PPIH), explained the service greatly assists pilgrims, particularly after long journeys and physically demanding Hajj rituals. She added it was her first time witnessing an immigration service that can expedite checks for large passenger numbers. The province’s first female governor also expressed gratitude that the first batch of pilgrims arrived in good health after completing their Hajj. ‘May all their Hajj be accepted and successful,’ she said. ‘They arrived refreshed, and their entire journey was made easier by Allah SWT.’ Meanwhile, East Java Regional Directorate General of Immigration Chief Novianto Sulastono explained the Immigration Seamless Process Corridor Gate is an immigration check service using iris recognition to match passenger data with flight manifests. ‘Through iris scans, registered flight passengers’ data is immediately retrieved. They simply need to hold their passport, and their transit data is recorded,’ he said. He noted the service significantly speeds up checks, processing 378 Hajj pilgrims from a single flight in under 40 minutes. Compared to the previous manual system, which required two to three hours to process a single kloter, he added. He also stated the system has a 99.9% accuracy rate, with only two or three out of 378 pilgrims requiring manual checks due to non-recognition. He added the system also ensures accurate matching of passenger data with flight manifests, allowing all incoming pilgrims to be precisely recorded. ‘This is the first time it has been implemented in Surabaya. It was previously operational at Soekarno-Hatta and is now being applied at Surabaya Hajj Hostel,’ he said.
