Khofifah: Public Communication Must Bridge Government Policy and the People

The East Java Provincial Government has won an institutional award for Best Communication Performance in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) at the 2026 Indonesia DEI & ESG Awards (IDEAS). Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa said the award serves as motivation to continue delivering public communication that is not only informative but also builds trust, encourages public participation, and strengthens sustainability values in every policy and development programme in East Java. The provincial government received the special category award for ‘Institution with DEI and ESG Communication Performance on Social Media of Choice’ at the 5th Indonesia DEI & ESG Awards (IDEAS) 2026. Khofifah noted that social media has become a strategic channel for the government to convey information quickly, accurately, openly, and in a way that is easily accessible to the public amidst accelerating digital transformation. She explained that good communication is not just about delivering information, but also ensuring the public understands, feels the benefits, and is involved in every development process. The award also recognises the provincial government’s efforts to integrate DEI and ESG principles into its public communication strategy, particularly through official social media channels. According to Khofifah, values such as diversity, equality, inclusivity, social care, good governance, and environmental sustainability have become inseparable parts of various development programmes in East Java. She added that quality public communication is an important foundation for building public trust in the government. Therefore, communication innovation will continue to be strengthened in line with the development of information technology and the public’s increasing need for credible, easy-to-understand, and accountable information. ‘Going forward, we will continue to strengthen public communication that is humanist, inclusive, data-based, and optimally utilises digital technology. Public communication must be able to bring hope, build collaboration, and become positive energy in realising an advanced, just, prosperous, excellent, and sustainable East Java,’ Khofifah said.
