Khofifah Moves Jatim Provincial Government WFH Schedule from Wednesday to Friday

The East Java Provincial Government has officially shifted the work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN), with the schedule moving from Wednesdays to Fridays effective June 2026.

Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa stated the change aligns regional policies with central government instructions. “The East Java Provincial Government implements limited and measured WFH for civil servants every Friday to synchronise with the Home Affairs Minister’s directive that WFH should be conducted nationally on Fridays,” she said in a statement on Monday, 1 June.

The former Social Affairs Minister confirmed the new scheme takes effect from 5 June 2026, assuring no decline in public service quality despite the shift to the week’s end. “Yes, the day is synchronised with the centre—WFH on Friday, starting [5] June,” she added.

Khofifah emphasised strict regulations, with exceptions for specific departments. Essential public service sectors must operate fully on-site (WFO), including hospitals, the Social Affairs Department, Transportation Department, Satpol PP, Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Bakesbangpol, and Education Department’s UPT for senior high schools, vocational schools, and special needs schools.

She detailed that departments directly impacting the public must ensure seamless, high-quality, and accessible services, including healthcare, transport, security, and provisions for vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women, children, and others.

The governor noted WFH is not without oversight. Under the Governor of Jatim’s Circular on Civil Servant Task Flexibility, staff on WFH days must not leave their homes and remain responsive to requests, ready to report to the office if needed. Digital monitoring has been tightened, requiring staff to log attendance via the JATIM PRESENSI app under WFH mode, report daily activities with performance evidence, and have line managers verify these submissions.

Additionally, to conserve energy, civil servants must ensure office spaces are secure before leaving on Thursdays—switching off air conditioning, lights, and unplugging all electrical devices.

The provincial government views this flexible work arrangement as an effective alternative to boost technology-driven bureaucratic efficiency, provided public service performance and quantity remain unaffected.
