East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa inaugurated the ‘Omah Terapi-ku’ facility at the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) for Protection and Care Services for Early Childhood (PSAB) in Sidoarjo on Tuesday, 19 May 2026. The service, under the East Java Provincial Social Service Office, is dedicated specifically to children with special needs (ABK) and disabled individuals from low-income families.

In her address, Khofifah stressed the importance of gratitude and integrity in executing her duties. She urged all levels of staff and the public to view their positions as a means to help others, especially the vulnerable.

Notably, Khofifah shared a personal reflection about her life journey. She recalled her modest childhood when she had to work to help support her family financially.

“Back in the second to fourth grades of primary school I sold ice pops. All of life’s journeys are a process prepared by Allah,” Khofifah recalled, motivating attendees that a humble background is not a barrier to serving the country, including when she was trusted to become a minister and later governor of East Java for two terms.

Head of the East Java Social Service Office, Restu Novi Widiani, explained that the presence of Omah Terapi-ku represents a concrete step to improve the quality of public services. Previously, therapy services at this site were available only once a week; they can now be accessed every day.

The facility provides a range of essential services for the development of disabled children, including: For example, 24 children at the PSAB UPT currently require regular therapy, and around 20 members of the public have already registered to benefit from the facility, Restu Novi added.

The Omah Terapi-ku programme was realised through the collaboration of various parties. The facility’s renovations were supported by a grant of Rp250 million from PT PLN. For medical staff, the programme received support from the Health Ministry’s Surakarta Health Polyclinic.

Going forward, the East Java Provincial Government through the Social Service aims to develop similar services at other locations. The plan is to replicate the Omah Terapi-ku model to seven strategic sites across East Java to broaden access for children with disabilities from underprivileged families.
