Khofifah: East Java Leads National Transaction Value for Kopdes Merah Putih
The high transaction value indicates that economic activity at the village level has begun to move and is delivering direct benefits to the community.
Surabaya (ANTARA) - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa revealed that East Java leads the national transaction value of the Merah Putih Village/Neighbourhood Cooperatives, achieving Rp17.45 billion based on data up to 7 July 2026.
“Alhamdulillah, East Java has once again shown that the spirit of mutual cooperation and a people-centred economy can be realised through cooperatives. The high transaction value indicates that economic activity at the village level has begun to move and is delivering direct benefits to the community,” said Khofifah in Surabaya on Friday.
According to data from simkopdes.go.id/pers/dashboard, the transaction value of the Merah Putih Village/Neighbourhood Cooperatives in East Java reached Rp17.45 billion, or more than half of the national total transaction value of Rp30.06 billion.
Khofifah said the achievement shows that the cooperatives have not only been established institutionally, but have also begun to carry out their economic function, delivering tangible benefits to the community.
According to her, this success is the result of synergy between the central government, district/municipal governments, village governments, cooperative administrators, and the community in developing the village economic ecosystem.
Previously, East Java also became the first province to complete the legal incorporation of 8,494 Merah Putih Village/Neighbourhood Cooperatives, giving them a strong institutional foundation to accelerate cooperative operations across the region.
Khofifah stressed that the next challenge is no longer establishing cooperatives, but ensuring that they develop into professional, healthy, and sustainable centres of village economic services.
“Our target is not merely a large number of cooperatives, but cooperatives that are truly alive, productive, and capable of becoming the driving force of the village economy. Cooperatives must be present to strengthen micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), smooth the distribution of community needs, create jobs, and improve the welfare of villagers,” said Khofifah.
She added that the Merah Putih Village/Neighbourhood Cooperatives need to be built through collaboration with local business actors, including Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM), Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), farmer groups, fisher groups, and creative economy players, in order to create a mutually reinforcing economic ecosystem.
Khofifah is optimistic that the transaction value of cooperatives in East Java will continue to rise as cooperative operations across all villages and neighbourhoods become increasingly optimal.
“Hopefully this achievement will serve as motivation for all cooperatives in East Java to continue improving services, expanding business, and delivering ever greater benefits to the community. Strong cooperatives will become an important foundation towards villages that are self-reliant, prosperous, and competitive,” she said.
