Khofifah: East Java Leads National Transaction Value for Kopdes Merah Putih

East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has announced that the province leads the national transaction value for the Kopdes Merah Putih (Village/Sub-district Cooperatives), reaching Rp17.45 billion based on data up to 7 July 2026. “Alhamdulillah, East Java has once again shown that the spirit of mutual cooperation and a people’s economy can be realised through cooperatives. This high transaction value indicates that economic activity at the village level has begun to move and is providing direct benefits to the community,” Khofifah said in Surabaya on Friday. According to data from simkopdes.go.id/pers/dashboard, the transaction value of Kopdes Merah Putih in East Java reached Rp17.45 billion, more than half of the total national transactions of Rp30.06 billion. Khofifah said this achievement shows that the cooperatives have not only been institutionally established but have also begun to perform economic functions that deliver tangible benefits to the community. She attributed the success to synergy between the central government, district/city governments, village governments, cooperative administrators, and the community in developing the village economic ecosystem. East Java was previously the first province to complete the legal entity formation for 8,494 Kopdes Merah Putih, providing a strong institutional foundation to accelerate cooperative operations across the region. Khofifah stressed that the next challenge is not forming more cooperatives, but ensuring they develop as professional, healthy, and sustainable village economic service centres. “Our target is not just a large number of cooperatives, but cooperatives that are truly alive, productive, and capable of becoming the driving force of the village economy. Cooperatives must be present to strengthen MSMEs, facilitate the distribution of community needs, create jobs, and improve the welfare of village residents,” Khofifah said. She added that Kopdes Merah Putih need to be built through collaboration with local business actors, including Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), farmer groups, fisher groups, and creative economy players, to create a mutually reinforcing economic ecosystem. Khofifah expressed optimism that the transaction value of cooperatives in East Java will continue to increase as cooperative operations become more optimal across all villages and sub-districts. “Hopefully this achievement will encourage all cooperatives in East Java to continue improving services, expanding businesses, and delivering greater benefits to the community. Strong cooperatives will be an important foundation towards independent, prosperous, and competitive villages,” she said.
