Khofifah Backs Dr Soetomo Hospital's Participation in ACGME Conference in United States
The strategic role of the hospital as a teaching hospital, as well as its potential to become a Leading Teaching Hospital (RSPPU), is one of the key considerations.
Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, supports the participation of Dr Soetomo Hospital in Surabaya in the Annual Educational Conference (AEC) 2026, organised by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in San Diego, United States.
“The participation of Dr Soetomo Hospital in the ACGME conference is an important step in strengthening the quality of medical education in East Java, aligning it with international standards,” she said in Surabaya on Tuesday.
According to Khofifah, the participation of the East Java Provincial Government-owned hospital is a strategic move to promote the improvement of the quality of healthcare services and global-standard medical professional education.
She explained that Dr Soetomo Hospital has been invited to participate in the conference, which will be attended by hospitals from various countries.
Khofifah hopes that the delegation from Dr Soetomo Hospital will be able to gain a holistic understanding of global standards in professional education, as well as evaluate and strengthen the existing education system.
“Improving the quality of healthcare services must start with excellent education. Therefore, we encourage Dr Soetomo Hospital to continue to innovate, adapt to global developments, and become an internationally competitive centre for medical education,” she emphasised.
Meanwhile, the Director of Dr Soetomo Hospital, Professor Cita Rosita, said that participation in the ACGME AEC 2026 is a strategic opportunity to strengthen the internationally standardised medical professional education system.
She added that the lessons learned from the international forum will be used as material for evaluation and improvement in the development of the curriculum, learning system, and governance of professional education at Dr Soetomo Hospital.
“We are committed to implementing international medical education standards gradually and sustainably. Our hope is that Dr Soetomo Hospital will not only be a national referral hospital, but also an excellent and competitive centre for medical education at the global level,” she added.
The ACGME annual education conference is a learning forum in the field of postgraduate medical education, or Graduate Medical Education (GME), attended by more than 5,000 professionals from around the world, including educators, leaders, and innovators in academic medicine.
With the theme “Meaning in Medicine”, the conference emphasises the alignment of personal and professional values, the improvement of the well-being of healthcare workers, and the strengthening of collaboration in the healthcare system.
