Khofifah and NU Muslimat of West Java Call on UN to Stop War

Surabaya - The Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Central Board of Muslimat Nahdlatul Ulama, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, together with Muslimat NU West Java, has called on the United Nations to stop the war for the sake of world peace. The West Java Regional Leadership of Muslimat NU read out a declaration containing nine appeals to the UN regarding the cessation of armed conflicts and the strengthening of global peace. “This letter that is being read is our call to the world, to the UN, that the world should commit to stopping the war and realising peace,” said Khofifah in a statement received in Surabaya on Sunday. The nine points include halting conflicts, strengthening peaceful diplomacy, protecting civilians including women and children, protecting medical personnel and educational facilities, and guaranteeing the safety of journalists. In addition, the declaration also highlights the importance of unimpeded access to humanitarian aid, the enforcement of international law and human rights, increasing the role of women in peace, and post-conflict rehabilitation. Khofifah emphasised that the momentum of the 80th anniversary serves to strengthen the role of women in various sectors, including international humanitarian diplomacy. “Therefore, Muslimat NU will send this letter collectively to the UN. This letter will be sent online in coordination with other women’s organisations,” Khofifah continued. In addition to humanitarian issues, the event also encourages economic independence for members through cooperation with Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) in the hajj planning programme, umrah, and gold instalments. “The presence of BSI is expected to be an important part in building economic independence for Muslimat NU mothers wherever they are,” said Khofifah. At the end of the event, Khofifah expressed appreciation to the families of Muslimat NU members who have supported their participation in organisational activities. “Thank you for the extraordinary enthusiasm of all Muslimat NU from various regions. May all the energy we dedicate to NU, Muslimat, and the nation-state become part of opening the doors to Allah SWT’s paradise,” she said.
