Khariq's Trial in Screenshot Editing Case Linked to August 2025 Protest Postponed Again
The panel of judges has once again postponed the trial of Khariq Anhar in the case involving the editing of screenshots of a statement by the President of the Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPI), Said Iqbal, regarding the demonstrations that ended in riots in August 20und5. The trial was delayed because the presiding judge, Arlen Veronika, is still on leave following the death of her parent.
“The original agenda for today was to hear testimony from the defendant’s mitigating witness; however, as the presiding judge is still on leave due to recent bereavement, the trial cannot proceed,” stated Judge Abdulatif at the Central Jakarta District Court on Monday (29/06/2026).
The judge has postponed the trial until Monday (06/07). Today’s agenda was intended to hear testimony from Khariq’s mitigating witness, Ferry Irwandi.
“We apologise and ask for your understanding. The court will reconvene on 6 July 2026. That is all,” the judge said.
Previously, Khariq’s trial was held on Monday (22/06) but was also postponed due to the passing of the mother of presiding judge Arlen Veronika.
In this case, Khariq is accused of editing Said Iqbal’s statement using the Canva application. Prosecutors argue that Said’s original positive appeal was altered by Khariq to convey a negative meaning.
“After reading the statement of witness Said Iqbal, the defendant, Khariq Anhar, felt disappointed and subsequently, without permission, altered, added to, or removed parts of Said Iqbal’s statement on digital media,” the prosecutor stated while reading the indictment at the Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday (10/02).
“Specifically, at 16:58 WIB, the defendant took a screenshot of Said Iqbal’s statement on digital media and then edited the screenshot using the Canva application, where certain words or initial sentences were blacked out and edited or retyped so that it contained information that was not true,” the prosecutor added.
The prosecution claims that Khariq’s actions caused Said Iqbal’s statement to deviate from the actual facts. Prosecutors assess that the edited statement created a provocative impression and posed a negative impact on public security.
The prosecution further stated that Khariq’s editing was intentional and that he published the altered statement on his Instagram account, @aliansimahasiswapenggugat.
As background, Khariq Anhar was previously acquitted in a separate incitement case related to the demonstrations that ended in riots in August 2025. Khariq was acquitted alongside the Executive Director of Lokataru, Delpedro Marhaen, the admin of @gejayanmemanggil, Syahdan Husein, and Lokataru Foundation staff, Muzaffar Salim.
