Khariq's Trial in Edited Screenshot Case Related to August 2025 Protest Adjourned
The panel of judges has adjourned the trial of defendant Khariq Anhar in the case of editing a screenshot of a statement by the President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI), Said Iqbal, related to a demonstration that ended in rioting in August 2025. The trial has been postponed until next week. “We will adjourn for one more week, we will meet again on the 29th (June). The trial is adjourned and closed,” said Judge Abdulatif at the Central Jakarta District Court on Monday (22/6/2026). The trial was postponed because the chief judge presiding over the case, Arlen Veronika, passed away. Today’s trial agenda was supposed to hear mitigating witnesses from Khariq’s side. Khariq had planned to present Ferry Irwandi as a mitigating factual witness. Ferry Irwandi, dressed in black, had already arrived at the Central Jakarta District Court. In this case, Khariq is accused of editing Said Iqbal’s statement using the Canva application. Prosecutors argued that Said’s call, which originally had a positive meaning, was altered by Khariq to have a negative meaning. “That after reading witness Said Iqbal’s statement, Defendant Khariq Anhar was disappointed and then, without permission, altered, added to, or reduced witness Said Iqbal’s statement on the digital media,” the prosecutor said while reading the indictment at the Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday (10/2). “By means of, at 16:58 WIB, the Defendant took a screenshot of witness Said Iqbal’s statement on the digital media and then edited the screenshot using the Canva application, with several initial words or sentences blacked out and edited (overwritten) or retyped, so that it contained information that did not correspond to the truth,” the prosecutor added. The prosecutor stated that Khariq’s actions made Said Iqbal’s statement inconsistent with the actual situation. The prosecutor argued that Said’s statement, as edited by Khariq, created a provocative impression and had a negative effect from a security perspective. The prosecutor said the editing carried out by Khariq was done deliberately. The prosecutor stated that Khariq published the edited statement on his Instagram account named @aliansimahasiswapenggugat. “That the act of Defendant Khariq Anhar, who deliberately altered, added to, or reduced the statement from witness Said Iqbal, was then disseminated on the defendant’s Instagram social media, namely the account @aliansimahasiswapenggugat, so that it could be seen and witnessed by all Instagram social media users,” the prosecutor said. For information, Khariq Anhar was previously acquitted in an incitement case related to the demonstration that ended in chaos in August 2025. Khariq was acquitted alongside Lokataru Executive Director Delpedro Marhaen, @gejayanmemanggil admin Syahdan Husein, and Lokataru Foundation staff member Muzaffar Salim.
