Khamenei's Wife Dies from Injuries Sustained in US-Israeli Attack on Iran
Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, the wife of the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has died from injuries sustained during a US-Israeli attack on Iran. According to AFP reporting on Monday, 2 January 2026, Bagherzadeh died today, according to Iranian media reports. She had been in a coma following the assault by US and Israeli forces.
“Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, 79 years old, has been in a coma since the attack on Saturday that killed Khamenei,” stated the Tasnim news agency.
Previously, members of Khamenei’s family were also killed in the combined attack by Israeli and American forces on Iran. Iranian media reported that Khamenei’s daughter and grandchildren were among the dead. “Following contact with sources aware of information within the family circle of the Supreme Leader, news of the martyrdom of the daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren of the Revolutionary Leader has regrettably been confirmed,” reported the Iranian news agency Fars, according to AFP reporting on Sunday, 1 March.
The combined US and Israeli assault on Iran took place on Saturday, 28 February. US President Donald Trump announced Khamenei’s death as a result of the Israeli and US attack on Iran on the same day. “Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, is dead,” Trump stated on his Truth Social media network.
On Sunday, 1 March, Iran confirmed the death of its Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, as a result of the attack. Iran also announced a 40-day period of national mourning.
Additionally, Mohammad Pakpour, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, and Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh also died in the attack.
