Khamenei Urges Iranian People to Maintain Unity and Thwart 'Enemy Efforts'

Istanbul (ANTARA) - Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, on Thursday (4/6) called on citizens to maintain unity and reject division in order to thwart ‘enemy efforts’ to destabilise Iran. According to reports from the Mehr News Agency, the call was made by Khamenei in a message commemorating the 37th anniversary of the passing of former Supreme Leader Ruhollah Khomeini. He emphasised the importance of maintaining cohesion between the public and government officials. ‘The enemy is launching hybrid warfare against our nation, through both military and psychological warfare,’ he stated, without explicitly naming the United States or Israel. Khamenei added that while the enemy has been defeated militarily, they are now attempting to reverse the situation by sowing discord and division within the Iranian nation to achieve their malicious goals. He asserted that maintaining unity among the Iranian people and state institutions is vital to thwarting these plans. These statements were delivered amidst the most intense hostilities between Iran and the US since the ceasefire came into effect in early April. This week, Iran launched missiles and drones targeting US military installations in the region and Kuwait International Airport, resulting in one fatality. Regional tensions have escalated since late February, following airstrikes by the US and Israel on Iran that killed over 3,000 people. In retaliation, Iran attacked Israel and Gulf nations hosting US military bases, and closed the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global trade shipping lane. A Pakistan-mediated ceasefire began on 8 April, while efforts to reach a broader agreement continue. US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that a final deal to end the war is close, involving the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the cessation of Iran’s nuclear programme, and the removal of enriched uranium stockpiles.
