Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has ordered the country’s judiciary to pursue alleged crimes committed by the United States and Israel against the Iranian people, particularly concerning the war that has been ongoing since last year. In a message delivered during the Judiciary Week commemoration, which also marks the martyrdom of Ayatollah Mohammad Beheshti and his colleagues, Khamenei stressed that protecting the rights of the Iranian people must be a top priority for the judiciary. “One of the most important legal and judicial issues facing the nation today is fighting for and restoring the rights of the Iranian people that have been violated by international criminals and arrogant, aggressive powers,” Khamenei said. He argued that the physical, material, and psychological losses resulting from US and Israeli attacks must be processed through legal channels, both in domestic courts and international forums. Khamenei specifically mentioned attacks on the Minab and Lamerd areas, health facilities, public services, and alleged infanticide during the conflict. He also cited the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution as part of the cases that must be legally pursued. Furthermore, Khamenei emphasised that the judiciary has a fundamental responsibility to safeguard public rights, protect legitimate freedoms, eradicate corruption, uphold the law, and ensure justice is applied consistently. Responding to the directive, Head of Iran’s Judiciary Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i stated that the entire judiciary is committed to fully implementing the Supreme Leader’s instructions. “We are committed to carrying out all of the Leader’s directives precisely, swiftly, and without exception,” Mohseni-Eje’i said. He noted that judicial reform will be implemented through an updated transformation document and a new supervisory system. Performance assessments of the judiciary will also involve independent scientific and professional bodies outside the judicial institution, with evaluation results reported directly to the Supreme Leader. According to Mohseni-Eje’i, the entire judiciary has committed to improving the quality of legal services while expanding the implementation of established priorities to increase public trust in Iran’s judicial system.
