Khalid Basalamah's Statement Regarding His Examination by the KPK
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Prominent preacher and owner of the Hajj travel bureau PT Zahra Oto Mandiri, or Uhud Tour, Khalid Zeed Abdullah Basalamah has reminded the public that he was examined by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as a witness, not a suspect, in the alleged corruption case involving the Hajj quota.
“I am a witness, not a suspect,” Khalid stated after being questioned by the KPK as a witness in the Hajj quota case at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Thursday.
Furthermore, the Chairman of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Travel Association (Mutiara Haji) explained that he is not the only one summoned and examined by the KPK in the investigation of the Hajj quota case.
“All association chairmen have been invited. Yesterday, today, and possibly in the coming days. So, they are just asking for statements as witnesses, nothing more,” he said.
He also stated that the one returning the money related to the Hajj quota case is not just him alone.
Meanwhile, he explained that he decided to comply with the KPK’s summons because he is a good citizen.
“Yes, I was summoned as a witness and as a good citizen, we respond,” he said.
Previously, on 9 August 2025, the KPK initiated an investigation into the alleged corruption case of Indonesia’s 2023-2024 Hajj quota.
On 9 January 2026, the KPK named former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and Ishfah Abidal Aziz alias Gus Alex as suspects.
The KPK then received the results of an audit by the Financial Audit Board (BPK) of Indonesia on 27 February 2026, which stated that the state financial loss in the case amounted to Rp622 billion.
Subsequently, on 12 March 2026, the KPK detained Yaqut at the KPK’s Red and White Building Branch State Detention House, followed by the detention of Ishfah on 17 March 2026.
The KPK temporarily changed Yaqut’s detention status to house arrest on 19 March 2026 at the family’s request, but re-detained him at the KPK Detention House on 24 March 2026.
On 30 March 2026, the KPK named two new suspects, namely Operational Director of Maktour Ismail Adham and General Chairman of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Travel Unity (Kesthuri) Asrul Aziz Taba.
