KH Najamuddin Abduh Re-elected to Lead South Sulawesi MUI for 2026–2031

KH Najamuddin Abduh has again been entrusted to lead the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of South Sulawesi for the 2026–2031 term. The decision was made at the Ninth Regional Conference (Musda IX) of MUI South Sulawesi held at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Makassar on Sunday (23/8).

The chairman of the Steering Committee of Musda IX MUI South Sulawesi read out the results of the Formateur Team meeting before the conference participants and delegates. The appointment was made after the Formateur Team deliberated on the leadership of MUI South Sulawesi for around 50 minutes.

The discussion was intensive, taking into account input from formateur members. The process was undertaken to produce a leadership line-up deemed capable of carrying out MUI South Sulawesi’s community agenda over the next five years.

Najamuddin expressed gratitude to the ulama and Islamic community organisations in South Sulawesi for entrusting him to lead MUI South Sulawesi once again.

He said he would strengthen synergy among elements of the ummah and promote a moderate approach to Islamic propagation. Najamuddin also stressed the importance of safeguarding strategic fatwas relating to public interests.

“We must oversee strategic fatwas for the benefit of the people of South Sulawesi,” said Najamuddin.

In addition to appointing the chairman, Musda IX also established the core leadership of MUI South Sulawesi for the 2026–2031 period. Najamuddin will be assisted by three deputy chairmen: M. Ghalib, Mustari Bosra and Muammar Bakry.

Andi Marjuni was appointed Secretary-General, while Andi Thaswin Abdullah serves as Treasurer-General.

Meanwhile, the Formateur Team will hold further meetings to arrange the management structure at commission, institution and autonomous body level. This arrangement is being carried out to complete the organisational structure of MUI South Sulawesi for the 2026–2031 period before the board is inaugurated and begins implementing the organisation’s work programme.
