Key Points from Trump-Xi Jinping Meeting, Discussing Oil to AI
BEIJING - Presidents of China Xi Jinping and the United States Donald Trump agreed to build a constructive China-US relationship based on strategic stability.
This was discussed during the high-level meeting between the two world leaders in Beijing on Thursday (14/5/2026).
The important meeting was filled with gestures of friendship between the two countries that have been at odds for years.
Various issues were discussed, ranging from intellectual property and human rights to technology and trade.
According to CNBC, at least five key points can be summarised from the China and US government meeting.
Xi revealed that Beijing will use this as a guiding framework for the next three years and beyond.
Xi said that the strategic product positioning strategy will be led by cooperation and measured competition with manageable differences.
He also emphasised that the framework must be translated into real actions.
Senior economist at the Economist Intelligence Unit, Tianchen Xu, said this signals a period of ‘controlled stability’ that will last for some time.
“Although frictions are expected to continue, there will be safeguards, and the situation will not spiral out of control for both sides as it nearly did in 2025,” he stated.
The delegation was led by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng.
“Both sides must work together to maintain the positive momentum that has been hard-won,” Xi said.
Beijing welcomes deeper US commercial engagement. To that end, China will open its doors as widely as possible to accept various possibilities.
These comments came as a dozen business leaders from some of America’s largest companies joined Trump’s visit, including Tesla founder Elon Musk and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.
