Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko returned to Indonesia for the second time in 13 years on 1 July 2026. Lukashenko was in Jakarta from 1-2 July 2026. Landing at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Aleksandr was welcomed by Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin. The President’s son, Dmitry Lukashenko, also greeted his father. Dmitry Lukashenko had arrived earlier in Jakarta and had already held a meeting with Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman on Tuesday, 30 June 2026. This visit was a reciprocal bilateral trip after President Prabowo Subianto previously visited the Belarusian capital, Minsk, on 15 July 2025. At that time, Prabowo also visited President Lukashenko’s residence in Ozyorny, located outside the capital Minsk. Their meeting last year lasted nearly three hours. President Prabowo became the second head of state after Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit President Lukashenko’s home post-renovation. Lukashenko said during his welcome to President Prabowo, “After this house was restored, you are the second guest after President Putin. Previously, even before the renovation, President Xi Jinping also visited here with his family.” President Alexander Lukashenko stayed at the State Palace in Jakarta. Foreign Minister Sugiono said the plan to stay at the Presidential Palace was Lukashenko’s wish. He said the Indonesian government fulfilled the request as a form of respect for the President. Sugiono noted that other heads of state usually prefer to stay in hotels. “This time, His Excellency wished to stay at the Palace,” Sugiono said at the Palace on Thursday, 2 July 2026. According to Sugiono, Lukashenko was initially planned to stay at the State Guesthouse within the Presidential Palace complex. However, President Prabowo Subianto requested that accommodation be prepared at the State Palace for the Belarusian President. “Initially it was at the State Guesthouse, but the President considered the State Palace to be more representative,” said the Secretary-General of the Gerindra Party. Lukashenko and Prabowo held a joint press statement after the meeting. “I thank the President for the plan to open an Indonesian embassy,” Lukashenko said at Merdeka Palace. Currently, Indonesia’s representation in Belarus is still concurrent with Russia. Indonesia has the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Moscow, which also represents the Indonesian government for the Republic of Belarus. Lukashenko also appreciated Prabowo’s openness to opening direct Indonesia-Belarus flight routes. “Belarusians are very interested in visiting Indonesia,” he said. He stated that the Belarusian government pays great attention to the tourism sector. Lukashenko is also open to discussing visa-free cooperation between Belarus and Indonesia. “I also thank the President for his support for the development of people-to-people relations between the two countries, including discussions on visa-free facilities and the opening of future flight connectivity,” he said. Lukashenko said Belarus views Indonesia not only as an economic partner but also as a highly attractive tourist destination. “We hope that Belarusians will find it increasingly easy to visit Indonesia, and likewise, Indonesians will find it increasingly easy to visit Belarus,” said the man who has served as President of Belarus since 1994. On the same occasion, Prabowo expressed appreciation for Lukashenko’s visit to Jakarta. “I am confident this momentum will strengthen the Indonesia-Belarus partnership and open up broader cooperation opportunities,” said the Chairman of the Gerindra Party. President Prabowo Subianto and President Alexander Lukashenko launched the Indonesia–Belarus Bilateral Cooperation Roadmap 2026–2030. The document was announced following the two leaders’ meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, 2 July 2026. Prabowo said the roadmap would serve as a framework for developing bilateral relations over the next five years. “This roadmap reflects a shared commitment to more focused and concrete cooperation,” Prabowo said during a joint press conference with Lukashenko at the Palace. According to Prabowo, Indonesia and Belarus cooperation will be strengthened in various sectors, from agriculture and industry to socio-culture. In the field of food security, both countries agreed to expand cooperation in fertilisers, agricultural tools and technology, and heavy equipment. “Indonesia and Belarus have complementary potential to strengthen cooperation in modern agriculture, fertilisers, agricultural tools and technology, and heavy equipment,” he said.
