Key Demands from Labour Unions at May Day 2026 Attended by Prabowo
Aspirations regarding the provision of daycare facilities were voiced by Ilhamsyah, General Chairman of the Indonesian Workers’ Union Confederation (KPBI). Prabowo was seen immediately noting down the aspirations presented.
“For young workers who have just married and started a family with children, they face a bitter choice. The first option is to leave the child with their grandmother in the village, or one of them has to quit work to care for the child,” said Ilhamsyah at Monas on Friday (1/5/2026).
Ilhamsyah hopes that the state will step in to create daycare centres in industrial zones or workers’ settlements. This way, he continued, the children of workers are expected to live decently and receive proper care.
“The state must be present to create better human beings in the future from infancy, so children need health guarantees and good care,” he said.
Other aspirations were presented by Said Iqbal, President of KSPI and also President of the Labour Party. Said demanded that the government immediately ratify the Labour Bill to abolish cheap wage outsourcing.
“First, ratify the Labour Bill. Second, we mention HOSTU. Abolish Outsourcing, Reject Cheap Wages,” he said.
Said alluded to the war situation threatening worker layoffs. He asked the government to immediately declare the formation of a PHK task force.
“War has threatened layoffs. Therefore, the PHK task force can be declared immediately,” he said.
Furthermore, Said requested a tax reform for workers. He asked that severance pay and THR for workers not be subject to tax.
“We request that pension severance pay not be taxed, and THR also not be taxed,” he said.
Said continued that his side supports the ratification of the Asset Seizure Bill. Workers, he said, also demand that cuts for online motorcycle taxis (ojol) be reduced to 10%, not 20%.
