Ketupat Leaf Vendors Report Sales Plummet to 500 from 3,000 Last Year During Idul Adha

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Ketupat leaf vendors in the Pal Merah area of West Jakarta have complained about a decline in sales during this year’s Idul Adha compared to the previous year. One vendor, Yadi, 54, said this year’s sales have been much quieter, falling short of last year’s figures. ‘Only 500 units have sold since yesterday,’ Yadi said when interviewed by Kompas.com at his stall on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Yadi said his ketupat leaf sales during last year’s Idul Adha reached nearly 3,000 units. This year’s sales remain far below that figure. ‘Last year was better, this year has declined,’ he said. He suspects rain and the economic situation have contributed to sluggish sales. ‘I’m confused why sales are slow. Perhaps due to constant rain, people are reluctant to go out. Or because the economy is also struggling,’ he added. Yadi has made another 100 ketupat leaves today, lowering prices to attract buyers on the final day of sales. Previously, Yadi sold ketupat leaves at around Rp 7,000 per bundle of 10 units. Now, he is selling them from Rp 5,000 per bundle. ‘Now it’s around Rp 5,000 per bundle since it’s the final day,’ he said. Selling ketupat leaves is only a side business during Idul Adha and Idul Fitri. Another vendor, Among, 62, said ketupat leaf sales this Idul Adha have been stagnant at around 3,000 units. Among sells at the same stall as Agus, 50. ‘Sales from Monday to Tuesday reached around 3,000 units. Only about 500 units remain,’ Among said. Among said buyers typically continue arriving after the distribution of sacrificial meat is complete, as the public usually makes ketupat only after receiving the meat.
