Ketapang-Gilimanuk ferry crossing closed during Nyepi
PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) will temporarily suspend ferry services on the Ketapang–Gilimanuk (Banyuwangi–Bali) and Lombok crossings on Nyepi Day in Bali, as a gesture of respect for the Hindu holy day. The Director General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transport, Aan Suhanan, said the operational adjustments are part of national transport arrangements to maintain order and to honour the observance of Catur Brata Penyepian on Bali. The policy is also partly due to Nyepi coinciding with the Lebaran 2026 travel period, which is expected to see a surge in mobility. The crossing operations at Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi, will be temporarily halted from 18 March at 17:00 WIB to 20 March at 06:00 WIB. The government has prepared several traffic-management schemes to anticipate movement from 13 to 29 March. These include optimising MB Pier and LCM on the Ketapang–Gilimanuk route, and operating alternative routes: Pelabuhan Tanjung Wangi–Pelabuhan Gilimas and Pelabuhan Jangkar–Pelabuhan Lembar. The measures aim to distribute vehicle flows to keep traffic flowing smoothly, safely, and under control during the peak mudik period. In addition to vehicle diversion, the government has also adopted a delaying system via buffer zones on toll and non-toll roads, and geofencing with a radius of 2.65 kilometres from Ketapang Port and 2 kilometres from Gilimanuk Port.
