Ketandan Parking Facility in Malioboro Closed Until End of December 2026 for Expansion

The Ketandan Special Parking Facility (TKP) in the Malioboro area, Yogyakarta, has been temporarily closed starting today until the end of December 2026. The closure is to facilitate the continuation of Phase II construction.

Head of the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) Transportation Agency, Chrestina Erni Widyastuti, stated that the physical construction work for Phase II is expected to take approximately five months. She clarified that the facility is being developed as part of a sustainable parking and mobility system for the area, rather than solely as a prerequisite for the full pedestrianisation of Malioboro.

Following the completion of Phase I, the parking facility currently accommodates 535 two-wheeled vehicles and 87 four-wheeled vehicles. Erni explained that Phase II, which has a budget ceiling of IDR 9.37 billion, will expand the capacity to 1,200 spaces for motorcycles and 118 spaces for cars. This represents an increase of 124 percent for two-wheelers and 36 percent for four-wheelers.

Rizki Budi Utomo, Acting Head of the Terminal and Parking Management Unit, added that the construction was split into two phases due to budget constraints. The Phase II construction method will mirror Phase I, utilising a bored pile foundation and a predominantly steel superstructure. The steel components will be prefabricated and assembled off-site to minimise heavy on-site work, accelerate construction, and reduce the impact on the environment and surrounding community activities.

During the closure, the agency is directing motorists to alternative parking facilities, including the Beskalan and Senopati parking areas, as well as other lots managed by the Yogyakarta city government and private operators. Information on these alternatives will be disseminated through various media, including social media channels.
