Kertajati Airport Targeted to Become MRO Hub This Year

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the development of Kertajati International Airport in Majalengka, West Java, is targeted to become a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) centre and begin operations this year. The government is currently completing several stages, including the process of transferring the airport’s asset management from the West Java Provincial Government to the central government. “It is in process. We want it as soon as possible, but everything needs a process. Because there is also an asset transfer, which originally belonged to the West Java Provincial Government, and its management will be transferred to the Central Government,” Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday. He explained that developing Kertajati as an MRO centre is part of the government’s effort to optimise the use of the airport infrastructure that has been built to provide greater economic benefits. The government is targeting Kertajati’s operations to commence this year. According to him, the government has prepared various scenarios to activate activities at Kertajati Airport, ranging from making it a Hajj embarkation point to an aircraft maintenance centre. Furthermore, Prasetyo believes that optimising Kertajati Airport will create a multiplier effect for the economy of the surrounding community. “We are optimising the assets we have built so they can provide more optimal benefits. We also believe that if we can activate Kertajati, the community’s economic ecosystem and its multiplier effect will automatically grow,” he explained. He added that the MRO facility at Kertajati will not only be used for defence purposes but will also serve civil interests. Prasetyo noted that Kertajati Airport has a strategic location and a large area, allowing it to serve multiple functions simultaneously as a national aviation activity centre.
