Kerry Did Not Immediately Tell Riza Chalid About the Fuel Terminal Plan: If It Fails, It Would Be Embarrassing
Jakarta - Beneficial owner of PT Orbit Terminal Merak (PT OTM), Muhamad Kerry Adrianto Riza, admitted that he did not tell his father, oil businessman Mohamad Riza Chalid, about the plan to lease the Merak fuel terminal to PT Pertamina from the outset, due to concerns that the plan might fail.
“I did tell him what I was going to do, but not in detail. Because if it doesn’t work out, I’d be embarrassed,” Kerry said during the trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
Kerry provided this information when examined as a witness in the continuation of the trial for the alleged corruption case involving the management of crude oil and refinery products at PT Pertamina (Persero), for the defendant, Director of Marketing and Trading at PT Pertamina (Persero) from April 2012-2014, Hanung Budya Yuktyanta, and former VP of Supply and Distribution at PT Pertamina (Persero), Alfian Nasution.
Regarding the cooperation plan with Pertamina, it was only revealed shortly before the contract was signed.
The contract between PT OTM and PT Pertamina was signed in August 2014.
Previously, there was a loan contract signing between PT OTM and Bank BRI.
“So he knew after I asked for a personal guarantee from Bank BRI,” Kerry replied.
At that time, Kerry asked Riza to act as a personal guarantor so that the bank would approve the loan he applied for.
Kerry’s explanation somewhat differs from the narrative outlined by the Public Prosecutors (JPU) in the indictment.
Riza Chalid is said to have pressured Pertamina to include the terminal rental project since 2012.
Riza Chalid’s messages were conveyed by Irawan Prakoso to Hanung Budya and Alfian Nasution.
This incident was previously explained during the trial on Monday (20/10/2025). At that time, the Director of Marketing and Trading at PT Pertamina in 2014, Hanung Budya Yuktyanta, provided testimony in the trial for the defendant in a separate case file.
