Keroncong songs almost extinct?

From Warta Kota

Indonesian songs in the once popular keroncong mode, a blend
of local and Portuguese music, have almost disappeared even
though they still have a fairly large number of fans.

When I come across street musicians playing these songs, I
tell them that they are not just earning a living, but also
preserving an element of our musical heritage.

Keroncong songs were released first on phonograph record in
the 1930s by, among others, Jokim Tjan in Batavia (the former
name for Jakarta). Many of these became very popular.

I would like to appeal to TV stations to air a lot more music
programs featuring keroncong melodies.
