The Provincial Government of the Kepulauan Riau (Pemprov Kepri) is targeting the construction of seven Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools) starting this year to broaden access to education for the community, particularly underprivileged groups.

Deputy Governor of the Kepulauan Riau (Wagub Kepri) Nyanyang Haris Pratamura stated that his administration has conducted various cross-sectoral coordination efforts to ensure land readiness and the completeness of administrative requirements for the school construction.

“Six Sekolah Rakyat will be spread across six regencies/cities throughout Kepri. One of them will be built in the Dompak area, Tanjungpinang City, on a land area of approximately ten hectares,” Nyanyang said in Tanjungpinang on Wednesday.

He conveyed that location surveys for the Sekolah Rakyat have so far been carried out in five regions. The survey for the Kepulauan Anambas Regency will be conducted next week.

He hopes that three priority locations can begin construction this year, with the tender process targeted for October 2026. The three locations are Tanjungpinang, Anambas, and Natuna.

“We hope all requirements, including spatial planning compliance, environmental impact analysis (Amdal), land certification, connectivity, and traffic impact analysis, can be completed soon so that the construction process can commence immediately,” he stated.

Deputy Governor Nyanyang explained that the Sekolah Rakyat will adopt a boarding school concept equipped with various supporting facilities for education and student character development.

The school will also feature sports facilities, places of worship, a semi-international standard football pitch, a swimming pool, badminton courts, and various other supporting amenities. Its construction is fully financed by the state budget (APBN), with a total budget of IDR 250 billion per Sekolah Rakyat.

“We want all the learning and development needs of students to be properly met through this Sekolah Rakyat,” he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Kepri Social Service Mahadi Rahman confirmed his agency’s readiness to accelerate all stages under the local government’s authority to support the realisation of the programme.

According to him, the Social Service and related teams are continuously working to prepare supporting needs, including intensive coordination with the central government.

“If all land requirements have been declared compliant, we will move quickly to prepare the next stages so that construction can be realised immediately,” Mahadi said.
