Kendari residents complain of foul odor
KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Residents living around a cattle-
feed producing company in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, are
complaining about the foul smell it produces.
"The company is reckless as regards waste management in that
it has been ignoring the foul smell, which has been greatly
disturbing local people," said one resident on Tuesday.
A number of environmental organizations have submitted
complaints to the local administration, but there has been no
response to date.
The company, U.D. Buana Laut, collects fish heads, bones, and
innards from fishing enterprises and processes them into cattle
feed.
Its products are sold in Makassar, South Sulawesi, and
Surabaya in East Java. --Antara
