Kendari Detention Centre Head Suspended Following Inmate Found at Coffee Shop

Kendari (ANTARA) - The Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections in Southeast Sulawesi has suspended Rikie Umbaran from his position as head of the Kendari Class II A Detention Centre following the case of corruption convict Supriadi being found at a coffee shop.

Sulardi, the head of the Sulawesi Tenggara Ditjenpas Regional Office, stated when met in Kendari on Friday that this temporary suspension aims to facilitate the internal examination process.

The suspension decision is outlined in Order Letter Number WP.27-588.SA.04.01 of 2026, dated 17 April 2026.

“For now, we are suspending him first to ease the examination,” Sulardi said.

Regarding the sanctions to be imposed on the detention centre head, Sulardi said they will await the results of the examination and the decision from the Internal Compliance Operational Unit of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

“The sanction decision for the detention centre head awaits the results of the regional office examination and the central Satops Patnal,” he stated.

Even though under the escort of detention officers, the inmate was proven to have violated the procedure for leaving the detention centre.

In addition to the Kendari detention centre head, the Sultra Ditjenpas has also imposed firm sanctions on the inmate Supriadi and the custody escorting officers who were on duty at the time.

The sanctions imposed include transferring Supriadi to Nusakambangan Prison and reassigning the officer from the Kendari Detention Centre to the Sultra Ditjenpas Regional Office.

Supriadi is a convict in the corruption case of abusing authority in issuing Ship Sailing Permits (SIB) for illegal nickel transport, causing state losses of Rp233 billion.

For his actions, Supriadi was sentenced to five years in prison, a fine of Rp600 million, and an obligation to pay replacement money of Rp1.255 billion.

In the trial facts, Supriadi was proven to have received a bribe of Rp100 million for each illegally issued tongkang ship document.
