The Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Kementerian Imipas) has stated that the acting Head of Kendari Class IIA Detention Centre, La Ode Mustakim, and two of his officials have been reassigned following questioning over the case of a corruption inmate drinking coffee at a café in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi.

Sub-Directorate of Cooperation Head in the Directorate General of Corrections, Rika Aprianti, said that the acting detention centre head and the two other officials have been transferred to the Directorate General of Corrections.

“Further examinations have been conducted on the escorting officers involved, the two related structural officials, and the detention centre head. They have also been reassigned to the Directorate General of Corrections as part of the examination by the Internal Compliance Operational Unit of the Directorate General of Corrections,” Rika Aprianti said in a written statement on Friday (17/4/2026).

“The relevant inmate has been transferred to the maximum-security prison in Nusakambangan,” she added.

Sub-Directorate of Cooperation Head in the Directorate General of Corrections, Rika Aprianti, stated that a joint team from the Directorate General of Corrections in Southeast Sulawesi is examining the inmate along with the officers who were supervising him at the time of the incident.

“Regarding the incident, an examination is being conducted by a joint team from the Internal Compliance Operational Unit (Sat Ops Patnal) of the Directorate General of Corrections and the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections in Southeast Sulawesi, involving all related parties, both the inmate and the officers,” Rika said in a written statement on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

She explained that, in line with directives from Minister of Imipas Agus Andrianto, the examination will cover from the detention centre head, the prison security head, to the escorting officers involved in the incident.

“And if violations are proven, they will be addressed in accordance with applicable regulations, up to the removal from position,” she said.

The inmate is former Kolaka Harbour Master with initials SP. He is currently serving his sentence at Kendari Class IIA Detention Centre after being sentenced to five years in prison by the Kendari Corruption Court at the District Court.

“So, the individual was taken out for a summons to attend a case review hearing. It was a court summons from the Kendari District Court to attend the hearing today, and he was escorted by our officers at 09:00 WITA this morning,” Mustakim said.
