We hope that all stakeholders, starting from Forkopimda, BPBD, to sub-district heads, will work optimally starting today. We will maximise handling efforts so that there are no victims, especially fatalities.

Kendari (ANTARA) - The Kendari City Government, Southeast Sulawesi, has officially extended the flood disaster emergency status for another seven days until May 24th, 2026, in order to optimise the handling of the impact of disasters that still plague a number of areas in the region.

“We hope that all stakeholders, starting from Forkopimda, BPBD, to sub-district heads, will work optimally starting today. We will maximise handling efforts so that there are no victims, especially fatalities,” said Kendari Deputy Mayor Sudirman when leading a coordination meeting regarding the Disaster Emergency Status in Kendari City, Sunday.

Sudirman emphasised the importance of synergy and rapid action from all parties so that the condition of the capital city of Southeast Sulawesi can return to normal immediately.

He also hopes that the recovery of affected areas can proceed faster than the specified extension period.

He explained that the extension of the emergency status was taken based on the results of monitoring, evaluation, and the effectiveness of disaster management implementation in the field, which is considered to still require attention and further handling.

With this extension of the status, the Kendari City Government has asked all regional devices and related technical agencies to increase coordination, preparedness, and accelerate handling.

Sudirman also said that his party appealed to all residents to remain vigilant against the potential for extreme weather and follow-up floods. Residents are asked to always follow the directions of officers in the field to maintain safety together during the emergency period.

It is known that the coordination meeting was also attended by elements of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), heads of Regional Apparatus Organisations (OPD), the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), sub-district heads, and a number of other related vertical agencies.
