Kendari City Government Distributes Food Aid to 1,693 Flood Victims

Kendari (ANTARA) - The Kendari City Government has distributed food aid in the form of rice and cooking oil to 1,693 residents affected by floods in two sub-districts in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra).

Kendari Mayor, Siska Karina Imran, when met in Kendari on Friday, said that the food aid distributed was part of the government’s food reserves (CPP) from the National Food Agency (Bapanas) for flood victims in Kendari.

“We are distributing it at three locations in two sub-districts for residents affected by the flood,” said Siska.

Siska said that the three distribution points include 246 households with 984 people in the Wua-wua Village, then in the Lepo-lepo or Kali Wanggu Village, 153 households with 616 people, and the Baruga Village with 93 people from 23 households.

“The total number of recipients of aid at the three locations is 1,693 people,” she said.

She said that the City Government would distribute aid again to residents spread across the other seven sub-districts that were also affected by the flood in Kendari City.

“Because the total number of households affected by the flood is 1,339 households with 5,945 people,” she explained.

Siska revealed that the food aid was a form of government presence in the midst of the community affected by the flood.

She said that the distribution for all residents affected by the flood in the seven sub-districts would be completed no later than May 17, 2026, or Sunday.

“Because the distribution must be verified according to the data on the ground for residents affected by the flood,” said Siska.

She also requested that the city government build a central disaster response command post in Kali Wanggu. Therefore, she asked the public not to worry about the logistics of food, clothing or medicine.

“For mothers, you don’t have to eat first, the food needs are prepared in this tent,” added Siska.
