Kempinski to open soon

JAKARTA (JP): German hotel management company Kempinski will open its first Indonesian property, the Kempinski Hotel and Apartments Jakarta, next year.

The five-star Kempinski Jakarta is a 36-story tower offering hotel-apartment accommodation which was developed by PT Prima International Development.

There will be 360 hotel rooms, from the first to 15th floor, and 254 apartment units, from the 16th to the top floor.

"This is new and the first of its kind in Indonesia, a building that combines a five-star hotel and apartments," Prima Adhitama director, Hendarto Rahardjo, said here yesterday.

The hotel-apartments are on 1.8 hectares in the MidPlaza business superblock on Jl. Sudirman.

The landscaping and technical installations will be completed in the first half of 1998 and the grand opening will take place in the second half of next year.

Midplaza Prima, one of Indonesia's leading property developers, also owns the luxurious Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Bali.

The 100-year-old Kempinski firm, which is partly owned by Thai Dusit, operates 26 properties worldwide.

The Jakarta property is the second Kempinski in Southeast Asia after Bangkok. (icn)
