Kemkomdigi to Select Frequencies, Expand High-Speed Internet to Remote Areas
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has officially announced preparations for the selection of 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz radio frequencies in 2026 to expand the availability of high-speed internet and improve mobile service quality, reaching even the remotest areas of Indonesia. “The implementation of this radio frequency band selection, scheduled for 2026, aims to provide additional radio frequency spectrum that can be optimised by mobile network operators,” stated an official Kemkomdigi release quoted on Thursday. To support this selection, Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid has issued Ministerial Decree Number 175 of 2026 on the Selection of Users for the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz Radio Frequency Bands for Mobile Network Operations in 2026. The 700 MHz radio frequency band to be auctioned is a low-band spectrum known as the digital dividend, produced after the completion of the analogue television broadcast migration (Analogue Switch Off/ASO) to digital TV. Its characteristics make it the primary backbone for expanding mobile broadband internet access across Indonesia’s vast regions. Furthermore, the 2.6 GHz radio frequency band is a mid-band spectrum ideal for supporting channel capacity and large-scale data transmission speeds, such as for 5G technology. Kemkomdigi invites all stakeholders, telecommunications industry players, and the wider public to continue supporting the government’s strategic steps in optimising radio frequency spectrum utilisation, in the hope of benefiting society, particularly in advancing Indonesia’s digital economy. “The Ministry of Communication and Digital always prioritises the principles of transparency, legal certainty, and accountability at every stage of this selection process,” the Kemkomdigi statement read.
