Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid stated that the Directorate General of Digital Space Supervision of the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) will hold a special meeting with representatives of the Wikimedia Foundation to discuss the platform’s compliance regarding the registration of Electronic System Operators (PSE).

“Regarding Wikimedia, there will be a meeting tomorrow. There will be a summons carried out tomorrow. We will update on it later,” said Meutya at the Ministry of Communication and Digital office on Wednesday.

The Wikimedia Foundation previously received an ultimatum from Kemkomdigi after it was found to have not met the PSE registration requirements for the private sector in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Since the end of 2025, the Indonesian Government has requested the Wikimedia Foundation to comply with PSE registration requirements, and the global digital platform has even been given leeway until early April 2026.

Therefore, Kemkomdigi issued an ultimatum to the Wikimedia Foundation on Wednesday (15/4) before taking further firm steps in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Based on the provisions regarding private sector PSE registration, PSEs that do not register with the system provided by the Government may be subject to sanctions, ranging from written warnings to disconnection of access or blocking of services.

Indonesia’s PSE registration requirements are deemed appropriate by cybersecurity experts. Most recently, this was stated by Chairman of the Cybersecurity and Communication Research Institute (CISSReC), Dr. Pratama Dahlian Persadha.

To ANTARA, Pratama said that the Indonesian Government’s ultimatum to the Wikimedia Foundation to fulfil its PSE registration obligations for the private sector is a form of firmness to maintain the country’s digital sovereignty.

He assessed that the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has taken the right step because the PSE registration obligation is not merely an administrative issue but also concerns regulatory equality.

“The government’s firm action can be seen as an affirmation of Indonesia’s digital sovereignty amid the dominance of global platforms. For a long time, many cross-border digital entities have operated in Indonesia without a clear legal presence, thus creating asymmetry between state authorities and service providers,” said Pratama to ANTARA on Wednesday.
