The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) has committed to strengthening digital sovereignty by ensuring three national priority agendas run optimally, in line with the theme of the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, ‘Indonesia Berdaulat, Adil, dan Makmur’ (Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia).

Secretary General of Kemkomdigi Ismail stated in Jakarta on Monday that this commitment must be emphasised because, in the era of digitalisation, national sovereignty is largely determined by the ability to control and safeguard the digital space, no longer limited to physical territorial boundaries.

‘Sovereignty today is determined by the nation’s ability to master its infrastructure, protect its data, develop its technology, safeguard its information space, and ensure that society benefits from the digital transformation process,’ Ismail said.

The three agendas are being implemented following directives from President Prabowo Subianto. Although they may appear disconnected, they share one crucial objective: safeguarding national sovereignty both in the present and for future generations.

‘The three may appear to be different programmes, but they share a common thread: sovereignty. Sovereignty means the state does not allow its digital space to be used to harm the lives of its people,’ Ismail said.

On the development of the National Data Centre (PDN), Kemkomdigi continues to strengthen collaboration with other ministries and agencies for data centre utilisation. Beyond utilisation, the collaboration also creates cross-ministerial and agency data integration to deliver digitalised public services and make it easier for citizens to receive their entitlements.

One example of successful data integration can be seen in the digitalisation programme for Social Protection (Perlinsos), facilitated through the Government Service Linkage System (SPLP) developed by Kemkomdigi. One manifestation of its use is the integration of the Digital Social Protection Portal, which accelerates verification of social assistance recipient data to ensure it is well-targeted and equitable.

The success of the Perlinsos digitalisation trial period was highlighted by President Prabowo, as it managed to register three million families in the system within a short time. At the time of national implementation, the expectation is that 49 million families will be registered in the system.

Enforcement has been strengthened through the cutting off of fund flows in collaboration with the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Bank Indonesia, and law enforcement agencies (POLRI), which have closed approximately 32,500 bank accounts affiliated with online gambling.

The final agenda, no less important and concerning the protection of the nation’s future generations, is the strict implementation of the Child Protection Regulation (PP Tunas) to provide a safe, comfortable, and healthy digital space for children.

As of July 2026, various digital platforms operating in Indonesia have deactivated approximately 4.7 million child accounts to create a safe space for children’s growth and development in the virtual realm. Additionally, more than 204 platforms have submitted self-assessment risk profiles to the government.

‘Our goal is not merely to close accounts, but to change the ecosystem. We want digital platforms to take responsibility for the spaces they build, because Indonesian children have the right to grow with technology without losing a safe childhood,’ Ismail said.

He affirmed that all these strategic measures align with the Kemkomdigi Strategic Plan (Renstra) 2025–2029 through the pillars of Connected, Growing, and Protected.

These three pillars represent a promise of digital independence to realise a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia.
