Kemkomdigi states Wikimedia complies with PSE registration under Indonesian rules
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has stated that the Wikimedia Foundation has finally complied with the applicable provisions in Indonesia regarding the registration of Private Electronic System Operators (PSE) after previously receiving an ultimatum from the organisation.
Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid said that her team has been assisting the Wikimedia Foundation to ensure that the PSE registration requirements are properly fulfilled.
“For today, the Wikimedia Foundation, along with the Kemkomdigi team, has carried out the initial stage of registration, namely submitting the documents to Kemkomdigi, which will then be completed in the near future,” Meutya said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The Wikimedia Foundation, as a non-profit organisation, is known to operate several digital platforms in Indonesia, including Wikipedia among others.
Following this, the Wikimedia Foundation has decided to fulfil the private PSE registration.
This step was taken after constructive dialogues with the Kemkomdigi team were held, both online with the platform’s operational centre in San Francisco and through direct meetings in Indonesia.
Meutya stated that the private PSE registration regulation is one that has been in effect since 2019 and is not something new.
This is regulated under Government Regulation number 71 of 2019 on the Implementation of Electronic Systems and Transactions and Minister of Communication and Informatics Regulation number 5 of 2020 on Private Electronic System Operators.
Therefore, Meutya emphasised that its application applies to all PSE without discrimination between global or local platforms, thus fulfilling the principle of fairness for all PSE operating in Indonesia.
“We certainly remind again that this is within the framework of protection and it applies once more to everyone; there should not be one that does not comply. Because the principles of accountability and fairness must apply to all,” Meutya stressed.
