Kemkomdigi states Wikimedia complies with PSE registration list, Wikipedia access normalised

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has stated that the Wikimedia Foundation has fully complied with the Electronic System Operator (PSE) registration requirements, resulting in the normalisation of access to its services such as Wikipedia.

Director General of Digital Space Supervision at Kemkomdigi, Alexander Sabar, expressed that the Wikimedia Foundation’s commitment to the private PSE registration regulations has been fulfilled today, Thursday.

“The Wikimedia Foundation Inc. has finally fully registered, so its services have been normalised,” said Alexander to the media at the Ministry of Communication and Digital office in Jakarta on Thursday.

Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid explained the PSE registration mechanism and noted that guidance was provided to enable the Wikimedia Foundation to optimally meet the requirements in Indonesia.

“Today, the Wikimedia Foundation, along with the Kemkomdigi team, has carried out the initial registration stage by submitting documents to Kemkomdigi, which will be promptly completed in the near future,” said Meutya in Jakarta on Tuesday (28/4).

The digital services of the organisation had previously experienced partial access restrictions because, until the end of 2025, as a PSE, it had not followed the private PSE registration requirements.

However, Meutya stated that the private PSE registration regulation has been in effect since 2019 and is not something new.

The government had previously granted an extension for PSE registration to the Wikimedia Foundation, but as of early April 2026, the PSE still had not registered.

Therefore, the Indonesian government had issued an ultimatum to the Wikimedia Foundation to fulfil its obligations, and they finally began dialogue with Kemkomdigi.

Constructive dialogues with the Kemkomdigi team were conducted, both online with the platform’s operational centre in San Francisco and through direct meetings in Indonesia.
