Banjarmasin (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation (Kemkomdigi) is reviewing 1,441 proposals for the development of internet access services, including Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), submitted by 12 districts in South Kalimantan (Kalsel) to expand the reach of telecommunications services in the region.

Acting Director of Telecommunications and Information Services for State-Owned Enterprises at Kemkomdigi, Tri Haryanto, stated that all these proposals are currently in the evaluation stage by the Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) under Kemkomdigi to ensure alignment between needs and on-site technical conditions.

“The assessment process is conducted to map priority locations for development based on the level of community needs and the readiness of basic infrastructure available in each proposed regional government area,” he said during the Coordination Meeting for Synchronising Blank Spot Handling Programmes across South Kalimantan in Banjarmasin on Wednesday.

He noted that approximately 68.6 per cent of the total proposed locations already have access to PLN electricity networks, which is one of the key factors in supporting the acceleration of telecommunications infrastructure development in the area.

In addition to electricity factors, Kemkomdigi also considers geographical conditions and the distribution of population settlements in determining development priorities so that internet services can reach communities more equitably.

Tri added that the implementation of telecommunications services in the region is carried out through collaboration with several mobile operators, such as Telkomsel, XL Axiata, Smartfren, and Indosat, supported by various transmission technologies.

He emphasised that all BTS development proposals must still undergo a technical verification process and cross-sectoral synchronisation before entering the physical construction stage on the ground.

“The government is committed to accelerating the expansion of internet access in the region through planning based on real community needs and the readiness of supporting infrastructure in each area,” Tri stated.
