Kemkomdigi Proposes Reduced Biometric Verification Fees for SIM Card Registration

The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has sent a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) proposing a reduction in biometric data verification fees charged to mobile operators for each SIM card registration. Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid stated that the effort to secure fee reductions is part of the implementation of biometric-based registration, which is designed to guarantee public security. “We have sent a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs requesting a fee reduction. Ultimately, this policy aims to provide security to the public,” Meutya said after attending the Declaration of Commitment for the Full Implementation of Biometric Data-Based Customer Registration in Jakarta on Thursday. Meutya noted that the proposal for reducing the verification fees is still under discussion. She encouraged cooperation between the government and cellular operators in submitting the request to the relevant agencies. Marwan, representing the operators, mentioned that the proposed fee is currently being discussed with the Ministry of Home Affairs. “We are actually proposing a fee between Rp200 and Rp600, and we hope it will be accepted by the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil),” Marwan said. “We will see how the discussions go, as we are still in talks with Dukcapil,” he added.
