Kemkomdigi Prepares NIK-Based Mobile Number Registration Check App

Jakarta - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) is preparing a National Registration Check Application as a platform for the public to check whether their National Identity Number (NIK) or identity has been used to activate a mobile number. “For mobile operator customers who have already completed biometric registration, they will later be able to check in the system whether their ID card or digital identity was used to activate a number,” said Kemkomdigi Director General of Digital Ecosystem, Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, in Jakarta on Thursday. He stated that through the application, the public can also submit a request to revoke registration status if they find a mobile number registered using their identity without their knowledge. Edwin said the government is targeting the National Registration Check Application to be launched within the next two months. Kemkomdigi is currently collaborating with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) to develop the application, particularly in preparing its security aspects. In addition to preparing the mobile number registration check application, Kemkomdigi will also increase supervision of mobile numbers indicated to have been activated for resale. The government will take action against these numbers by revoking their registration status. The government will also strengthen collaboration with various parties, especially mobile operators, to socialise the correct biometric SIM card registration procedures. Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, previously stated that as of 22 July 2026, 10 million mobile operator customers had registered their SIM cards using the biometric verification method. According to Meutya, biometric SIM card registration makes it easier for the public to detect if their NIK is being used by someone else, thereby providing greater protection against the risk of identity misuse.
