Kemkomdigi Consistently Boosts Capacity of Women MSME Entrepreneurs
Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) is consistently delivering programmes to build the capacity of women running micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as their businesses are a key driver of the grassroots economy.
Marroli J. Indarto, Director of Communication Partnership for Institutions and Public Relations at Kemkomdigi, said one of the capacities honed through the programme is the ability to harness digital technology, because although the number of women MSME players is large, their access to expand their businesses is often more limited.
“A large figure does not always mean equal opportunity. That is what we need to underline — it is not that women are unable to grow, but that the ladder they climb has fewer footholds,” Marroli said in a statement received on Wednesday.
Regarding data on women MSME players, according to the Financial Services Authority (OJK), 64.5 percent of Indonesia’s 65.5 million micro, small and medium enterprises are managed by women.
However, as company scale increases, the number of women as business owners actually declines. This is why the government continues to strengthen both the capacity and the networks of women entrepreneurs.
The latest Kemkomdigi programme for women MSME players is a talkshow titled “She-Connects: Perempuan Go Digital, UMKM Go Beyond”, attended by around 250 women from MSMEs, business communities, universities and the digital ecosystem in Surabaya, East Java, on Wednesday (29/7).
Through the “She-Connects: Perempuan Go Digital, UMKM Go Beyond” talkshow, Kemkomdigi hopes the event will be more than just a forum for sharing experiences — it can also build connections, strengthen capacity and open pathways.
Marroli added that strong partnerships and networks will open more opportunities for women to grow their businesses and enhance their competitiveness in the digital era.
The event featured three inspiring speakers: women MSME entrepreneur and influencer Ayana Jihye Moon; Stefani Angelia, founder of Doesoen Roti and The Overtee; and Yayuk Agustin, founder of Namira Ecoprint.
They shared their experiences of building businesses, harnessing digital technology, and expanding markets through innovation and collaboration.
