Sentani — The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) has allocated more than Rp147.7 billion for social assistance (bansos) in the form of staple-food packages and the Family Hope Programme (PKH) for the first phase of 2026, specifically for Papua Province.

The Head of the Centre for Social Welfare Education and Training (BBPPKS), Regional VI Jayapura, Papua, John Mampioper, in Sentani on Wednesday, said the provision of staple-food social assistance and PKH is part of protecting the community.

‘We hope that Beneficiary Families (KPM) can use this assistance well to meet daily needs,’ he said.

According to Mampioper, the assistance is given to groups of people in the lowest income category or decile levels one to five.

‘This programme recognises PT Kantor Pos Cabang Jayapura for distributing social assistance to KPM in Jayapura Regency,’ he said.

He explained that the distribution is based on population data and documents submitted in stages from the village level up to the provincial level.

‘In the future, we request that data on beneficiaries be continually updated so that the assistance can be targeted,’ he said.

‘Therefore, data from the lowest level of government must be continually updated to ensure that the recipients truly are people in need,’ he said.
