Jakarta - The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) said the school revitalisation programme has brought smiles to students at SMAN 4 in Manokwari Regency, West Papua Province, as they no longer have to share another school’s building. Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti stated in a written release in Jakarta on Sunday that the establishment of SMAN 4 Manokwari’s New School Unit (USB) is the result of proactive synergy between the education office, regency government, and Kemendikdasmen. Through the 2026 Education Revitalisation Partnership Agreement (PKS), he explained that an allocation of Rp8.1 billion has been earmarked for construction, targeted for completion within six months. This progressive step not only enhances students’ learning comfort but is also designed to boost the local economy through a self-managed scheme. SMAN 4 Manokwari Principal Iriandi Eendyasmoko recounted the significant challenges faced by the first batch of 60 students. Since the school was established in July 2025, he said classes had to be held in the afternoon from 12:15 to 17:00 WIT, using facilities from SMP Negeri 27 Manokwari. “The children are overjoyed at this news,” said Iriandi. He added that construction near the SMP site will greatly facilitate secondary education access, particularly for communities in the North Coast (Pantura) area. Similar joy was felt directly by SMAN 4 Manokwari students, including Maria Aura Angeli Tampani. The Year 10 student expressed relief that they will soon have their own building and learning facilities. So far, she admitted feeling embarrassed having to use another school’s facilities. “Naturally, we’re happy to have our own building. Since we’ve been borrowing, there’s always a sense of shame,” said Maria. Her classmate Filki Israel Kuai also welcomed the new facilities with enthusiasm. For Filki, the new building not only offers physical comfort but also brings high hopes for their educational future. “I hope SMA 4 becomes well-known, progresses like other senior high schools, and can compete,” he said.
