Kemenag Makes History, Appoints 15 Women as KUA Heads
The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) has marked a new history in the institutional transformation of the District Religious Affairs Office (KUA). A total of 15 women from the Islamic religious extension officer corps have been appointed as KUA Heads. The inauguration of 108 KUA Heads across Indonesia took place at the HM Rasjidi Auditorium, the Ministry of Religious Affairs service office, Jakarta, on Thursday (4/6/2026).
This inauguration is part of the implementation of Minister of Religious Affairs Regulation Number 24 of 2024 and KMA Number 1644 of 2025, which opens opportunities for Islamic Religious Extension Officers to hold the position of KUA Head. The Director General of Islamic Community Guidance, Abu Rokhmad, said the inauguration marks a new era of KUA leadership that is more inclusive and oriented towards strengthening religious services.
According to him, this policy is a strategic step to ensure that all KUA functions can be carried out optimally according to the needs of the community. Abu Rokhmad explained that the KUA transformation does not only involve changes in institutional structure but also strengthening the quality of services. Therefore, the Ministry of Religious Affairs provides equal space for functional officials, both Marriage Registrars (Penghulu) and Islamic Religious Extension Officers, to contribute to leading the KUA.
This is also in line with the vision of Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, who positions the KUA as the front line of religious services. ‘With equal opportunities for marriage registrars and Islamic religious extension officers, it is hoped that all KUA functions can be carried out optimally and all types of KUA services can be provided proportionately,’ said Abu Rokhmad on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony.
